Wagoner County Launches New Website July 25, 2011 WAGONER, OKLA. – Officials of Wagoner County recently launched a new website at wagonercounty.ok.gov. The new web site offers new functionality for Wagoner County by offering residents the opportunity to sign-up to receive email notifications from the County and conveniently find contact information for any department within the County. A calendar of events is included plus frequently asked questions for those new to navigating county government. “It’s important that the citizens of Wagoner County feel well informed regarding County government,” said Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, James Hanning. “The new website provides just that, a one-stop-shop for all things Wagoner County.” Visitors to the website will find information regarding elected officials, emergency services (including 9-1-1, emergency management, and county fire services), planning and zoning, courts, boards, trustees and commissions, and the history of Wagoner County. Additionally, there are links to land records, tax records, and maps and plats filed in the county. Planning and Zoning regulations are also on-line at this site. The new site, built through OK.gov’s Go Gov! Web Management Suite, allows Wagoner County staff to easily build and maintain a website without the knowledge of programming languages. The system utilizes the new state agency template, which provides a common look for all Oklahoma’s agency websites and gives website visitors a sense of security in that they are visiting an official Oklahoma government website. With the help of RSVP volunteer Dean Atteberry, and the team work of all elected officials and department heads, Wagoner County has a website that can grow and develop along with the County.
July 22, 2011 Not long ago state governments were ambivalent about using social media to connect with citizens. Those days are over, if the use of the most popular sites by the nation's governors is any guide. Some 47 of the 50 governors are using Facebook and Twitter, according to a recent Stateline examination of these services; 27 are using the photo-sharing service Flickr and 37 use YouTube. Of course, status updates and tweets are often the work of staffers, not the governors themselves. And it's reasonable to wonder whether feeds of P.R. about ribbon cuttings and bill signings are any more informative than an old-fashioned press release. But one thing's for certain: Americans have more ways than ever to keep up with what the people they elect want to tell them.
July 7, 2011 WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Transparency into presidential and Congressional campaign finances became more convenient today as NIC Technologies, LLC announces the launch of a free iPhone application, "FEC Campaign Finance $earch," providing mobile access to public Federal Election Commission (FEC) data. Available for free download on iTunes, users can search by federal candidate and/or committee, resulting in totals for net contributions, net distributions, cash and debt, as reported by that candidate or committee. "This application gives real-time access to public information on federal campaign finance totals," said Randall Bartlett, president of NIC Technologies, LLC. "We independently developed this as a public service to give mobile access to this important data." The new iPhone application also includes an advanced search giving users election finance data from 2001 to the present, with office, political party, and candidate status search fields. Senate and House searches also include state, and where appropriate the district criteria. "A quick search on the new FEC Campaign Finance $earch app provides information on over 150 presidential candidates who filed with the FEC in the last Presidential election year, 2008," said Bartlett. "The app will provide mobile 'ringside seat' access for current information on candidates in the upcoming 2012 presidential election."
