What is the Oklahoma Agriculture Mediation Program (OAMP)?

The Oklahoma Agriculture Mediation Program (OAMP) is a FREE mediation service available to Oklahomans who would like assistance with resolving all types of agricultural and environmentally related issues, and to agricultural producers, their lenders, and other people who have received an adverse decision from any of the USDA agencies including Farm Services Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Rural Development. OAMP is the USDA certified mediation provider for the State of Oklahoma. OAMP can also assist rural Oklahomans with resolving a wide variety of issues that affect their daily lives. These could include neighbor disputes, property issues, and farm foreclosures.

What is Mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary process in which people involved in a dispute agree to meet in a confidential setting to attempt to workout a solution on their own. A mediator helps people talk about the disagreement, identify options that might resolve the problem, and work out a solution that is mutually acceptable. Mediators facilitate the discussion and structure the process; they do not give legal advice and have no authority to decide the outcome. If an agreement is reached in mediation, the terms will be written down and signed by both parties. Many disputes can be successfully resolved through mediation. For OAMP cases that involve a USDA agency, parties who don't reach an agreement still report that the mediation helped them reach a better understanding of the regulations and the reason for the agency’s decision.
 

Who Does OAMP Serve?

OAMP offers mediation to anyone who has received an adverse decision as part of the informal appeals process, in an attempt to resolve the problem early and in the most effective way.  OAMP assist agricultural producers, their lenders, and other persons directly affected by the actions of USDA resolve disputes.  

You may be eligible for OAMP free mediation if you are a:

• Oklahoma farmer or rancher
• Agricultural borrower or lender
• Producer who has received an adverse decision letter from a USDA agency
