OCAST schedules student intern workshops
Monday, August 9, 2010
Workshops designed to help Oklahomans apply for OCAST’s R&D Intern Partnerships are scheduled August 17-19 at a location near you.
OCAST is the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology.
Since 1998 the OCAST R&D Intern Partnerships program has assisted Oklahoma small businesses in locating hard-to-find technology trained employees. OCAST pays one-half the cost for an undergraduate intern to work in a research and development setting.
Approximately 600 undergraduate students have participated in the program since its inception. More than 100 businesses have hired interns under the program.
OCAST’s program is designed to assist technology-based job creation. It combines university faculty oversight with financial support and company mentoring from the private sector. Many of the college students who participate in the program eventually become employees of the small businesses that sponsor them.
Intern workshops are scheduled at the following:
August 17 – Tulsa, Alan Chapman Activity Center, University of Tulsa
August 18 – Stillwater, Meridian Technology Center, 1312 South Sangre Road
August 19 – Oklahoma City, OCAST offices, 755 Research Parkway, Suite 110
All workshops begin at 10 a.m. and end at noon. To register or sign up for notifications, visit www.ocast.ok.gov. For more information, contact Tessa North, tessa.north@ocast.ok.gov or call 405-319-8410.
Letters of intent to apply for the program must be received in OCAST’s Oklahoma City office by August 25 and the application deadline is September 8.
