There are nearly 300,000 marginal gas wells in the U.S. These wells, often located in rural areas, don’t produce enough natural gas to justify building pipelines or multimillion dollar conversion facilities. Without this access, thousands of marginal well sites are being abandoned.

With assistance from OCAST and i2E, Northeast Oklahoma Technologies Inc. (NEOTech) is creating a small, skid-mounted device that can be transported on a flatbed truck. The portable equipment will process natural gas at well sites instead of at large off-site facilities.

This technology also optimizes the amount of gas that can be captured. With current conversion technologies, trillions of cubic feet of natural gas are escaping into the atmosphere or being pumped back into the well site. NEOTech’s new technology converts natural gas hydrocarbons directly to liquid fuels, bypassing the catalytic-based intermediate syngas stage. This process uses less energy, creates no waste water and releases no byproducts into the atmosphere.

This technology will have a significant impact for the local economy and will provide new business opportunities for small oil and gas producers, while bringing us one step closer to energy independence.
