After selling several hundred thousand records as the frontman of Pedro the Lion, David Bazan has hit his stride as one of the country's best singer-songwriters. In fact, Paste Magazine currently ranks him on their top 100 list of the best living songwriters. Bazan's indie-pop/folk-pop sound features a tremendous line-by-line lyrical deftness. His greatest strength has always been his ability to distill complex ideas to their essence, to connect us to his ruminations on Big Issues with an economy of language, and to communicate his conclusions (or lack thereof) with concise elegance that never loses its general human resonance. Opening the show will be Sherree Chamberlain, whose name has consistently appeared at venues and clubs all over Oklahoma for five years. Her carefully arranged 2009 release, The Wasp In the Room, captures her beautiful?and sometimes haunting?pathos. With a genuine air of wisdom and maturity, the talented Chamberlain writes real hooks, but sometimes the intelligent piano chords and textured, thoughtful compositions make you forget you?re listening to a pop song. Members of Bright Eyes, Nine Inch Nails, Beck, and Sufjan Stevens contributed to the Edmond native?s first record. Lyrically, Chamberlain makes simple yet poignant metaphors. In ''The Circus Song'', a song about conquering fears, one person is afraid to go to the circus but finally attends and comes to enjoy the experience. The powerfully memorable tune, ?Birdsong?, a child?s contemplation and reflection on a dying bird in her backyard, was the most requested song on 105.3 the Spy in 2010.
